Self proclaimed “evolutionary evangelist,” Michael Dowd stated that the Bible is a product of dumb “goat herders and fisherman,” and by this statement and others infers that it  is out dated by 2,000 years.  Note his words,

"Which makes more sense to you? That God would have communicated all the really important stuff in dreams and intuitions to goat herders and fishermen 2,000 years ago? Or that God would still be truly a divine communicator and be communicating today through every single fact discovered by science?” (quoted to author by reporter in an e-mail)

This position is upheld by the 2001 Nobel prize winner, Lee Hartwell who said about Dowd's message, “At last someone who understands that all of reality is sacred and science is our method of comprehending it.”  What is Dowd’s message? The answer follows:

Dowd, in chapter 3 of his book Thank God for Evolution, has a section entitled, “Grow in Evolutionary Integrity.” And in chapter 4,  he introduces the idea, “Toward an Evolutionary Christianity.”  In chapter 5 he makes “death” out to be a “gift" stating in a chart,  “Death is natural and generative at all levels of reality and is no less sacred than life."

His disdain for a normal understanding of Scripture and the Biblical worldview it produces is seen by him calling it  "a pre-evolutionary worldview frozen within scriptural literalism."  To Dowd, accepting Scripture as God's inerrant, infallible Word:

1.  Trivializes God, guidance, and good news
2.  Balkanizes (divides into hostile units) religion and bastardizes (lowers value of) science;
3.  Desacralizes nature
4.  Blasphemes death
5.  Fails our children in three tragic, unnecessary ways  (which he hasn't delineated on his web page as yet)
6.  Denies individuals and families access to the most important saving wisdom for overcoming personal and relational challenges
7.  Blinds us from seeing the true nature of the current global integrity crisis (from his web site)

He calls it a "Great Blaspheme" to reject the 14 billion year history of the universe in favor of a normal, literal understanding of scripture (web: thankgodforevolution.com/blog/the-great-blasphemy).  

Along the same line he states,

"God is NOT a supernatural terrorist.  But because many passages in scripture clearly portray God in just such an unflattering light, I predict that the rising tide of atheism will continue unabated so long as we religious folk trivialize God by interpreting our religious texts literally." So here he says that by taking God as His Word, we trivialize God by "interpreting" the Bible literally.

Michael Dowd although professes to be a “born-again” Christian, is an enemy to the God of the Bible and His unchanging, i.e. non evolving, Truth.  His message is anti Creator, anti revealed Truth, and anti science.  The Bible states that God’s Word is true from the beginning, Psalm 119:160, and that the Creator God of the Bible has preserved His Word, Psalm 12:6,7, and the Jesus is the same, yesterday, today, and forever, Hebrews 13:8.

Therefore, let the God of the Bible be True, and every man a liar. Romans 3:4. This is especially true of ministries like that of Michael Dowd, who undermine the eternal, unchanging, revealed truth of God’s infallible, Divinely inspired Bible.
