Do All Religions Lead to God?
By Allen J. Dunckley, Th.D.
Religion and religious expression are unique to being human.  Everywhere one travels one sees  religion and its cultural demonstration.  Even studies into man’s history reveal that at no time in his existence has man ever been non religious. This points to one scientific fact: Man is innately religious; it is an inseparable part of one’s totality of being.  The question is what is “religion”?

One definition of religion could be simply: Man’s innate response to something beyond himself.  Or, religion can be viewed as man’s innate ability to process immaterial ideas. To the evolutionist, this accounts for the “invention” of  God, which is the thought behind Julian Huxley’s statement, “Gods are peripheral phenomena produced by evolution.”i To Huxley “God” is the creation from the mind of man instead of man being the creation from the mind of God.  What Huxley fails to realize is that man is religious because God made man that way not because of some evolutionary pathway.

Both you and I are religious because it is in our nature to be so.  Whether one is a devout Tibetan monk, agnostic or atheist, you are religious.  This fits with the Biblical model,  for  the Bible states that God created man in His Image,ii which means, among other things, that man has the ability to commune (interface) with God. This created ability to “commune” is what makes man religious.  This desire to commune cannot be sidestepped by anyone; it must be “plugged in” some where:  into atheism, evolutionism, man-made religions (including “Christianized” versions), the occult, even self-

centeredness, and Hedonism. It is all these “religions” and religious expressions that do indeed lead to the same place -- eternal separation from the Biblical God!  The Bible calls this the “Lake of fire” and Jesus referred to it as “outer darkness.”  There is only one ‘receptacle’ into which man can plug his ‘religious tendency’ and make the connection with the One True God and that is not through, joining a ‘religion,’ but through establishing a ‘relationship’ with the Biblical God and His Son, Jesus Christ.

Man was originally created to have a direct relationship with the Creator God Himself.  That is man was able to be “plugged into”
God.  However, God created man with free will.  In this free will, man is able to choose whether he wants to be ‘plugged into’ God or not.  When the first man Adam choose ‘not to be connected with God and through his disobedience he became disconnected from God.  This means that all of Adam’s offspring, the descendants of Adam are born into this life ‘disconnected’ from the Creator God.  Everyone of us has the ability to make the choice to become connected once again.  This is because God who loves His creation, worked a way that even in a disconnected state, separated from a Holy God, man can become reconnected to Him, Romans 5:8.

Man can learn how to reconnect with the Creator God:  through revelation and through incarnation.  Through revelation God has provided His infallible Word we call the Bible.  In this word, God reveals that every person is born separated from Him as sinners because we all are Adam’s offspring, which is known as original sin.  This separation is due to God’s holy character that cannot associate with imperfection; this imperfection the Bible calls sin.  Being sinful keeps us separated (unplugged) from God. The consequence of this separation from God is death, both physical and spiritual, Rev. 21:8.  This is the state into which all are born and in which all live until they choose to plug into God through Biblical Christianity, which proclaims Jesus Christ as the Savior of the world and the only way to God, John 14:6.

Next is the consideration of the incarnation. Incarnation refers to God becoming flesh, e.g. being born as a man. God the Father accomplished this in the Person of His Son, Jesus Christ. God the Son became man so that He could pay the penalty for our sin, 2 Corinthians 5:21. The penalty for my sin and yours is eternal separation from a Holy God.  Only an Eternal Being could experience eternal death (separation) and Jesus, being the God/Man, was able to accomplish this by dying for each of us, you and me, on the cross over two-thousand years ago. It was on the cross that He, God the Son, experienced eternal separation from God the Father thereby fulfilling the Divine requirement for man’s sin and sinfulness.

But He did not stay dead; He rose physically from the grave. This resurrection validates the fact that only He is the way the truth and the life and the ONLY way to come back to God the Father.  It is only through Jesus Christ as proclaimed by Biblical Christianity that we can reconnect with God, Acts 4:12.

You say, wait a minute, my group believes ‘in’ Jesus, isn’t that the same thing?  The answer to this question is this, believing IN Jesus is NOT the same as believing about Jesus.  Many people believe many things about Jesus: that He was a real person; that He was a great teacher; even that He died on a cross.  All this is fine but it will not get any one into heaven.  One must believe IN Jesus.  This means that you are ‘reconnected’ to God through Jesus as your personal Savior from your very real sins and sinfulness.  This means that you believe that He died in your place for those sins and your sinfulness and that he rose physically from the grave.  This means you are committed to Him as your Savour and Lord and are willing to learn more about Him from His Word, the Bible. This means that you are excited about coming to a Bible believing Church to get understanding in spiritual things.

Have you come to a place where you realize that what you are ‘plugged into’ religiously is not really giving you fulfillment or satisfaction?  Do you long for something real and meaningful? If so, why not ask Jesus to be your personal Savior and become reconnected to God properly – not through man made ‘religious choices’ that all lead to the same place -- eternal separation from God in the Lake of Fire.  Instead, come back to God through the only true choice God has provided --  His Word, written and Incarnate, Biblical Christianity.
